Garden Meeting

We just finished the two-part Uprooting Racism Workshop with @greenthumbgrows and members of gardens around the city this weekend. Racism is a hard topic to discuss and the workshop provided a really safe place for these discussions to take place. We talked about the ways racism shows itself in our society; the history of the US and its implementation of racist policies and how those policies have systematically displaced people of color from farmland; our identities and roles within the system of racism; and ways to address racism through our organization, policies, and interpersonal relationships.

One of the most interesting activities was when each of us had the opportunity to evaluate our own garden, on a sliding scale, in terms of where we stand with respect to racism (ranging from being complicit with racism to being on the frontlines of dismantling it). We found that each of us had somewhat different perceptions of how well we were doing and the discussion that ensued was a valuable one.

We definitely have a lot of food for thought and are still processing. What we learned will greatly inform our Winter Task Force and we are looking forward to a better, stronger season!

Winter is the best season for planning! Our Winter Task Force (WTF) is reviewing last years successes and failures to come up with a list of proposals for members to review so we can be bigger and stronger next year 💪🏽🌱📝

We moved our compost in hopes of discouraging our rodent friends 🐀 and turned the compost! Members should continue adding compost to the LEFT side
