About the Compost System
We will be working with Stephan von Muelhen to build a two-barrel composting system. The main benefit of a tumbler design is that the food scraps go into a closed barrel off the ground with holes not large enough for rodents or other pests to get in. A double-barreled system also allows for one barrel to rest and have time to turn the food scraps into compost while the other is still able to receive new food scraps. The base will be built with reclaimed wood ready for outdoor use and strong enough to support two full barrels if necessary. The barrels will be modified with a lockable hatch for adding scraps, but also will have removable lids for emptying them.
